Excessively long election campaigns drain assets, fuel divisiveness, promote animosity, and distract elected officials from the duties the people hired them to perform.
Therefore, we call on you to initiate legislation that will:
preclude anyone from declaring their candidacy for any elected office at the national level more than six months before election day
preclude anyone declaring their candidacy for any elected office at the national level from beginning a campaign for office more than six months before election day
require anyone declaring their candidacy for any elected office at the national level to publish a written statement proclaiming their stand on at least two issues which they would actually be able to influence if elected
