Virtually ever law enacted - whether it be healthcare, defense, taxes or any other subject - contains "pork legislation." This term describes little sections of the law, hidden away and never talked about, that give funding or special consideration to various lobbyists, constituencies, or special interest groups unrelated to the purpose of the law.
Example: a fiscal cliff agreement that includes gun control provisions to please specific lobbyists, provides tax breaks for NASCAR track owners, and provides subsidies for rum distilleries.
I believe that a single law should address a single issue, and should be judged on its merits alone. Pork clouds the purpose of laws and hides spending and policy from the American people. It hurts both left & right equally. It should not be permitted.
