Initiate legislation to ensure that members of Congress DO NOT continue to be paid if the government enters a shutdown.

Created by R.C. on September 29, 2013

Surely we call can agree on this? Hundreds of thousands of government workers are going to begin losing their pay if the government enters a shutdown next week. But 535 of our 'lowest performers' -- that's right, the 535 members of Congress -- will continue to receive their salaries no matter what.

This petition requests that the White House immediately begin working with the Senate and House of Representatives to approve legislation that would remove the salaries of Congress members from the "mandatory funds" pool that is exempted from the effects of a shutdown.

If they can't get their job done, they should lose their pay too!
