Initiate repeal of the second amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The second amendment is an outdated concept from the days of single-shot muzzle-loaders, has no connection to any broad societal need, and continually stands in the way of rational gun control regulations, resulting each year in thousands of violent premature deaths, massive suffering, and an enormous incalculable economic burden in the U.S. It is long past time to formally move ahead with repeal of the amendment, and the administration should initiate efforts to do so. Guns will not necessarily be banned but will be regulated by the states and federal government, in a new framework in which there is no right (only a regulated privilege) to own a gun. In this sense, owning and using guns will become similar to owning and using cars. It will be difficult but the effort must begin.
