Inquire and report on the security of US consulates and embassies around the world, especially in areas of unrest

Created by M.S. on September 13, 2012

On 9/11/12 the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya was stormed and destroyed. Several Americans were killed, including an ambassador, Christopher Stevens.

This Time article describes security that is unacceptable for an American Consulate in even a 1st-world country.

Quote from the article: “inside there were only four security guards, all Libyans—four!—and with only Kalshnikovs on their backs.'

At the same time, the American embassy in Cairo, Egypt was also stormed (although not to the same extent as Libya), and the American flag defaced.

The USA is the most powerful country in the world, and our diplomatic centers should reflect that. Security should be examined and enhanced around the world.
