Passage of the Violence Against Women Act (S. 1925) must occur immediately to ensure the provision of legal, social, and health care services to all women and girls, regardless of domicile or sexual orientation, who are victims of a continuing epidemic of sexual and domestic violence in the United States.
The statistics are frightening: every 9 seconds a woman is assaulted or beaten and every day in the United States three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women.
If the Violence Against Women Act (S. 1925) is not passed in the early days of this congressional session, 200,000 women could lose critical legal, and in many cases, life saving, services and protections.
