Israel holds overwhelming power over the Palestinian people. Israel has military might; Palestine doesn't even have a formal army. Israel has the seemingly unconditional backing of the strongest nation on earth, the United States; backing of the Palestinians is inconsistent and weak. When one nation in a conflict has unmatchable power over the other, only outside intervention can make peace possible. Given that America encouraged the development of Israel from the outset, has given untold amounts of financial and political support to that nation, has never demanded anything from Israel in return, isn't it our responsibility to bring this harmful conflict to a reasonable close,now? Stop settlement building, insist on human rights for the Palestinian people. Do it now.
