A federal probe into the MTA should uncover illegal and inefficient practices in that organization.
The NYC subway system in the last two years:
* has experienced more delays than ever [1];
* is dirtier, more unsanitary than ever [2];
* is in a crumbling state [3].
In the same time period, the system has seen steeper and more frequent fare hikes [4].
The system presents major risks to its users, with many stations showing signs of water leaks, rat infestations, deficient load bearing structures, etc.
While the MTA claims to lack the resources to properly maintain and run the system, an independent audit found almost US$ 2 bi in unaccounted money.
