Install Metal Detectors and armed guards at a designated entrance points of every school, university, and library in the US as a start. Protect our children! You can't detect mental illness or collect every gun the US, but you can detect metal! Detecting metal would bar criminally insane people from entering schools with guns, knives, bow and arrows, box cutters and bombs. We need a real shield to protect our children who are required by law to attend school 5 days a week. We protect government buildings, prisons and courtrooms better than we protect the innocent lives of defenseless children. We can use the State lottery proceeds!
