Install photovoltaic system (solar panels) on the roof of the White House

Created by W.B. on January 23, 2013

In 1979 President Jimmy Carter installed 32 solar panels on the presidential mansion amid the Arab oil embargo. These panels remained until 1986 when work was done on the roof of the White House.

Many continue to argue the merits of solar energy despite the fact that solar technology has improved considerably in the last several decades, becoming more efficient and less costly. The President of the United States should serve as an example to the American people by utilizing solar technology by installing 32, 250-watt solar panels on the roof of the White House. At a cost around $25-$30,000, this 8,000 watt/hour system will produce nearly 1,200 kWh of energy each month. In 2010, the average electrical consumption for a U.S. residence is 958 kWh per month.
