Before constructing solar power plants in pristine areas, we should utilize the acreage of existing roofs as the foundation for generating solar electricity. Grid-tie systems are easily installed and provide an immediate benefit of "green energy" tied to the exisitng distribution system. Solar power plants built on virgin landscapes, which require new connections to the sytem, should only take place after we have exhausted the potential of exisitng roof area.
