In my county in Florida, 99% of healthy homeless cats are euthanized due to lack of space, funds, and resources in the county animal shelter. Most of the time, county Animal Services are the only agency that will accept homeless cats. Instead of euthanizing these healthy, friendly cats, I think these cats should be trapped, neutered, and returned (TNR) to another area where they will be able to have food and water for sustenance. I think TNR cat colonies, composed of neutered homeless cats who would otherwise be euthanized at county animal shelters, should be neutered and placed in these designated TNR cat colonies, where they can live their lives with the other cats and with a supply of water and food. A person (or people) would be responsible for feeding these cats every week.
