The corruption that is systemic in politics today is largely due to the huge sums of money involved in fund raising for elections. Each election, politicians need to raise more and more money to be viable, the bulk coming from special interest groups and corporations. These groups give money to both parties in order to cover their political interests. And with great donations come great expectations of special treatment. Our election process has morphed into a stage production of millionaires ascending to life-long positions, worrying more about staying in office than they worry about the best interests of America.
Whether it be eliminating all private donations completely or limiting all campaign contributions to the same fixed amount, America needs a new system of campaign financing.
