We the people ask the federal government to Propose a new Administration policy:

Institute a 60-second siren at 1 PM EDT every Memorial Day calling all Americans to solemn attention and meditation.

Created by M.H. on May 18, 2016

I am an American Israeli.
In Israel, we mark our Memorial Day immediately prior to Inedependance Day and precisely 1 week after Holocaust Memorial Day. You surely understand the significant juxtaposition of these events.
We are a small yet-embattled nation, and nearly all are drafted into military service. We all personally know fallen and wounded soldiers and their families, and our Memorial Day deeply touches us all. We particulary come together at 11 AM, when a steady 2 minute-long siren pierces the air throughout the country, calling all to solemn, silent attention and meditation.
Most Americans are untouched by military service and America's fallen. I therefore suggest a similar siren be instituted, calling all Americans out of the BBQs and shopping sales to a lone minute's memorial.
