In our nation there is clearly an unnecessary use of deadly force, and too many lives are being lost. Peace officers are commissioned to protect and serve, but the rush to judgment to shoot unarmed suspects is out of control. There needs to be a deterrent to curb the use of deadly force and this suspension would be that deterrent. There are times when peace officers must use deadly force, but there are clearly times when it is not warranted. If it is determined that deadly force was warranted during the investigation process, and while the officer is suspended, the suspension can be upgraded to leave with pay. The implementation of this automatic suspension without pay policy should lower the fatalities we see in the media and prevent lives from being lost without justifiable cause.
