A tax on emitted carbon dioxide should be instituted and enforced. This tax should be enforced for all medium and large institutions. The funds from this tax should go towards policies that address climate change.
When carbon dioxide is emitted into the atmosphere, it has an environmental cost that all of us must deal with. Currently, institutions that emit carbon dioxide do not have to pay for the environmental cost or address climate change. Taxing these institutions on their CO2 output may cause them to raise prices, but it would reflect the real cost of their products, including the environmental cost.
This tax would incentivize investment in clean alternatives, while funding policies that undo the damage we have already done to the atmosphere, leading to a better America for us all.
