Dear President Obama:
I, like most Americans, was saddened to learn of the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School. I, like most Americans, wish for some kind of constructive change to be wrought in the name of reducing violent crime. I, like most responsible firearms owners, realize that an Assault Weapons Ban will simply not accomplish this goal.
When I read about legislation concerning "Assault Weapons," I see a country that is content with possibly lowering the body counts of mass shootings instead of outright preventing them. I, along with with the signers of this petition, say that this is not enough.
Let us make all background checks free, which will inspire private sellers to have background checks run upon the people purchasing their firearms. This is a view toward prevention.
