Institute higher taxes on products with high fructose corn syrup and/or high levels of sodium to help curb obesity

Created by L.F. on May 12, 2013

Obesity is becoming an epidemic in the United States, and is costing this country millions of dollars in health care. If we institute higher taxes on these products, people will reconsider buying them and this will help lower the obesity rate. Even if they continue buying these unhealthy products, the United States will gain enough tax revenue to cover the cost of their medical care if they are uninsured, and apply the remaining money to research more healthy alternatives to these products and help educate the public about the health issues associated with their consumption.
