The wealth of the middle class (adjusted for inflation) is decreasing and has been decreasing for decades. Legislators from both parties claim that their economic policies are intended to help the middle class, and yet the trend is that the rich get richer and the middle and lower classes get poorer. The strength of our global economy is directly proportional to the strength and robustness of the middle class.
"Merit-based pay" is a pay structure typically used to pay educators based on how well they do their jobs. I propose that we institute a "merit-based pay" structure for legislators based on how well they do their job; which is quantified by the wealth of the middle class (after adjusting for inflation).
