Institute a National Buyback Program to Encourage the Removal of Guns from Private Homes

Created by G.H. on December 16, 2015

We want the Obama Administration to institute a gun buyback program. Countries like Argentina, Australia and Brazil have done so with success. "Americans make up around 4.3% of the world's population, yet own roughly 42% of all the world's privately held firearms" (Lopez, 2015). We believe in and support gun control, but we also believe the number of guns needs to be addressed. "There is a very strong correlation between gun ownership and gun violence." (Lopez, 2015) We want the program to be implemented nationwide and cover operational hand guns, rifles, assault weapons and the like. A fair market price should be offered for the surrendered guns, and incentive should also be offered for non-operational firearms.
