Institute a national minimum wage of $55k for Public School Teachers and $65K for Community College Instructors

This petition is meant to bring attention to the growing problem of compensation for teachers in public institutions and community colleges. While the White House is concerned with training teachers, attention should be directed to how the average teacher is paid. When the average pay for a teacher in the US is $55,418, the reality is that there are many states that fall well short of that average and find it a stretch to implement a true working wage for their teachers. We should propose a national minimum wage of $55,000 for public school teachers, and $65,000 for community college instructors so that States that do not meet the national average will be forced to compensate their teachers and pay them a sensible working wage for the amount of work they are expected to do.
