Organ and tissue donation and transplantation can provide a second chance at life for thousands of people each year. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, 19 people die each day waiting for transplants because of the shortage of donated organs regionally.
This petition is a call for a national altruistic living donor registry for kidney, bone marrow, and partial liver transplants, based on California Senate Bill 1395, initiated by Steve Jobs.
A national registry could drastically reduce the number of individuals on waiting lists due to limited availability in individual states. This national registry could significantly increase the number of potential donors and save many more lives each year over the traditional driver's license process used in many states.
