Negro Bill Canyon obviously bears a politically incorrect name. Past efforts to change the name failed when officials deemed it historically significant.
According to discovermoab.com, the canyon was named for William Granstaff, a black rancher who ran cattle in the area in the late 1800s. The canyon is on Bureau of Land Management land. The trailhead is off Utah Scenic Byway 128,
I find this name an insult to all Americans, not to mention the obviously disparaging, racist, and ignorant reference in the name itself to African-Americans.
Regardless of so-called "Historic Significance" The man did have a name it was William Granstaff and if we as Americans choose to Honor or acknowledge his historical nature. Then why use a dis-honorable ignorant term to do so?
