Gov. Snyder usurped the power of the locally elected officials in Flint, Michigan and replaced them with a "City Manager" who reports directly to Gov. Snyder. Under direction from the Governor's office to save money, the City Manager replaced Flint's safe water supply with water from the Flint River without taking adequate precautions to protect against its corrosive nature, which has resulted in leaching of lead from municipal and residential plumbing.
Despite warnings and evidence from environmental and medical professionals, the Governor's office maintained for over a year that the water was safe, which has resulted in thousands of adults and children being subjected to irreparable neurological damage. At minimum, this would appear to be criminal negligence per the Clean Water Act.
