Neonicotinoid pesticides were conditionally approved by the EPA despite EPA's own scientists warning of their toxicity to honeybees. Multiple scientific studies now implicate these pesticides, which are now in use across large swaths of U.S. farmland, in Colony Collapse Disorder and the unexplained crashing of the U.S. honeybee population.
The EPA describes its own mission to include, "assuring the safety of chemicals in our products, our environment and our bodies." Sufficient scientific evidence now exists to link neonicotinoid pesticides to the alarming decline in honeybee populations, and immediate emergency action is necessary to halt potential irreversible destruction to insects that play a crucial role in pollinating our nation's food crops.
