The US now ranks 28th in Internet connection speeds in the world and lags significantly behind other developed nations in IT infrastructure. Meanwhile, Internet Service Providers are only working to stifle competition and development by instituting arbitrary bandwidth caps and throttling unwanted traffic from competitors. The FCC reclassification of ISP as "information services" in 2005 is aiding their efforts.
This amazing technology was paid for, almost exclusively, by our tax dollars. If anyone has a claim to it, it is the American taxpayer.
The role of Internet Service Providers should be to fulfill a public trust -- just as a media corporation, granted the exclusive privilege to broadcast on certain frequencies. Please make them fulfill this trust as originally promised.
