The Debt Ceiling fight has come to represent the worst in our government: manufactured crisis after manufactured crisis. One answer solution is for the Secretary of the Treasury to mint a coin worth enough to pay our debts. This is a technicality that would allow congressional action on the debt ceiling to be side-stepped.
Historically, our currency bears the portraits of the most consequential American leaders. Perhaps this context or the threat of immortalizing their pettiness will inspire Congressional Leadership to act in a manner that befits their offices.
