The Federal Transit Authority, in response to a complaint brought by the lobby group the National School Transportation Association, has ruled that a small, rural public school in Michigan cannot partner with the local public transit system to provide busing for students. Suttons Bay Public Schools desperately needed to cut operating costs and creatively partnered with the Bay Area Transportation Authority to provide school transportation services thus saving the school almost $1 million dollars since implementation. A complaint was filed by NSTA even though there is no private-for-profit competition in the region and raising property taxes would be the school's only alternative to fund busing. The Federal Transit Authority has ruled the agreement must end, We want that ruling repealed.
