intercede in Rowan County, KY, and in other states wherever same-sex couples are being denied their legal right to marry

Created by J.M. on August 13, 2015

Rowan County Kentucky County Clerk Kim Davis has persistently refused to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples despite the June 26 Supreme Court ruling making it legal. Several other county clerks, particularly in Alabama and Texas, have also refusied to abide by the law, citing their religious convictions despite the fact that they are civil public employees sworn to uphold the law. The Obama Administration must use its federal power through the Justice Department or other agencies to enforce the law in Kentucky and elsewhere even if federal officials intervene to perform same-sex marriages. Every day matters. If one person in a couple dies before legal marriage the other person can never claim survivor Social Security benefits for which they've paid throughout their lives.
