The loan burden for getting a postgraduate degree in healtcare and other STEM related fields is extremely high (over $100,000). The interest rates on these loans average 7.9%. However, subsidized Stafford loans are no longer available at the postgraduate level.
My petition is that, at least interests paids on postgraduate student loans especially those in healthcare and STEM related fields should be 100% tax deductable.
That way, ambition and personal responsibility is rewarded and not punished as the status quo dictates. This will also help reduce delinquencies and help grow the economy through increased consumer spending.
