Recently in Uganda, hatred toward homosexuals has been rapidly spreading. This petition seeks to help prevent a genocide from occurring. Young children are being taught that homosexuality is something to be feared and punished. Civilians are participating in horrific rapes and murders. And all of this is practically encouraged by the Ugandan government.
We have seen genocides begin in similar circumstances to those currently in Uganda. Our country has unfortunately failed in the past to do anything to stop genocides, despite signing an agreement after WWII that promised we would do just that. As a country, we should show the world that we care about human rights abroad by being proactive. Things like press conferences, official statements, and education can aid in this proactivity.
