The Philadelphia school system is in crisis the likes of which the country has never seen before. Many schools lack access to basic resources including books and supplies and are critically understaffed.Media coverage has shed some light on the issues facing students and families in Philadelphia; outlets including NPR and Salon have published articles that have brought the issue into the national spotlight. While awareness of Philadelphia's plight is growing, more needs to be done. This petition calls for the federal government to identify ways in which it can support Philadelphia's families so that each child in the city has access to a quality education and the resources he or she needs to succeed. It is an abomination that the 5th largest city in America cannot support its own children.
