First detected more than two months ago, a methane leak outside of Los Angeles is rapidly polluting the atmosphere with methane. So far, the leak has emitted about the same as the lifetime emissions of SEVEN MILLION CARS. That is not a typo.
No immediate fix is in sight. Nearby neighborhoods have already been evacuated. This is an imminent and significant threat to the public health.
The utility at fault, Southern California Gas Company, has thus far mismanaged the response. The government must step in and fix this leak now.
