To intervene in the Supreme Court's review of patenting human genes by pushing legislation banning gene patents.

Created by J.C. on June 10, 2013

The US Supreme Court is hearing arguments about patent rights by a company that wants to patent the genes BRCA1 and BRCA2. The company argues that they simply used a chemical process to remove this gene from DNA and create a copy of the gene. They claim that the gene is not, therefore, a product of nature but rather something they created which makes it patentable. I think that ANY layman with a high school diploma could see that this argument, and every other argument this company has put forward, is absolutely ridiculous. Genes, whether natural or copies, should not be patented. A copy of a gene is just as the original one and can be used to prevents treatments and cures. President Obama, if the US Supreme Court rules in favor of this company, please introduce legislation to ban this!
