Intervene in Syria to Protect Civilians

Created by G.C. on January 12, 2013

After almost 2 years now of civil war Syria remains in a state of violence and chaos. The Syrian government has committed widespread and well documented atrocities against not just rebels but un-involved civilians as well. These include indiscriminate bombings and artillery fire against hospitals, civilian neighborhoods, and even bread lines. The government has used torture, arbitrary imprisonment, and massacre in an attempt to terrorize it's population into submission. It has violated multiple attempts at ceasefire, refused to negotiate unless it it allowed to remain in power, and shows no sign of changing it's attitude. The fact is that no amount of diplomatic pressure will change the situation in Syria. Bashar Al-Assad will not step down. Military intervention is necessary.
