introduce and support a bill to encourage voter participation by making a simple change to election day.

Created by E.W. on November 09, 2014

We feel that the current practice of having election day on the first Tuesday of November is an outdated practice that no longer meets the needs of working-class Americans in a modern age.

For most Americans, the first Tuesday of November is a regular business day, and voters face a tradeoff between voting and missing hours of paid work, for which they are often not reimbursed.

To encourage all Americans to exercise their constitutional right to vote, we petition the administration to introduce and support a law that enacts one of the following changes to Election Day:

(1) move election day to a weekend day (e.g, the first Saturday of November),
(2) make Election Day a federal holiday by either adding it as a new holiday or dropping an existing federal holiday.
