In light of the ongoing gun violence that occurs in the United States, many people have been calling for restrictions to the 2nd amendment. Although, an excellent thought experiment, it may be difficult to enact such legislation.
I propose using technology and engineering to make using and owning guns safer. I submit that the White House introduce legislation that would incorporate "smart gun" technology into manufacturing of consumer-grade weapons. "Smart gun" technology, such as fingerprint recognition, would enable only the authorized user to use the firearm.
I envision legislation that will make this technology a requirement (by a certain date) supported by a taxpayer-subsided, government buy-back program to incentivize its implementation.
