It is important to begin phasing out the use of fossil fuels to help prevent irreversible changes to our planet, and a carbon tax is the most effective way to do so. By introducing a revenue neutral tax on carbon emissions the US will, as a result, promote the use of renewable energy sources. A revenue neutral tax means that the US tax code will be weighted heavily on carbon and reduced in other areas. The tax should be slowly phased into the tax code, which would give companies time to react and reduce their carbon imprint. Many estimate that such a tax would cut the time it takes our nation to transition to clean energy in half.
