The Second Amendment was ratified over two-hundred years ago with the expectation that militias would fight the U.S.'s wars. We have moved past that necessity by funding the world's most powerful military, and thus it is no longer needed.
At present, the Second Amendment merely functions as a legal prop by which the powerful, entrenched gun lobby rests its argument that guns are needed in America, and to impose any kind of gun control on ordinary citizens would be illegal under the Constitution.
The simple fact is that fewer guns out on the streets in the hands of ordinary, unregulated citizens would make the U.S. far safer.
To accomplish the worthy goal of increased gun control, please begin a push to repeal the now-pointless Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.
