The 2nd amendment to the U.S. Constitution says:
"A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
It was adopted in 1791, at the time when the U.S. did not have a standing army and the states needed a well-regulated militia to defend against the foreign and domestic threats. Today, we have the strongest military in the world and police department that can defend us against foreign and domestic threats. 2nd amendment no longer serves its purpose.
The proposed 34th amendment to the U.S. Constitution:
"The second article of amendment to the Constitution of the United States is hereby repealed. The right of people to keep and bears arms shall be regulated by the States."
