Introduce a Constitutional Amendment Banning Children and Spouses of Elected Officials From Holding Their Offices

Created by K.H. on February 24, 2015

A third Bush is running for President, as is the spouse of former President Clinton. Political connections create unfair access. Such nepotism will undermine our democracy over time. We need to correct this, without upending the current election cycle. The President should ask Congress to approve the following, or a similar Constitutional Amendment, by 2/3 vote and submit it to the states for ratification by 3/4 of them:

Effective November 1, 2024, it shall be unconstitutional for:
- The child or spouse of any former President to serve as President;
- The child or spouse of any former governor of any state to serve as the governor of any state or as a US Senator;
- The child or spouse of any former US Senator to serve as a Senator or as a governor of any state.
