Introduce a constitutional amendment to eliminate all private contributions from elections to restore public trust.

One issue that I find unifies ordinary Americans regardless of their political views is campaign finance. Our people have lost confidence in their government because our government has essentially been purchased by the wealthiest corporations.

No lawmaker can avoid the truth that successful campaigns mandate vast sums of money. They are chained to their phones for between 30 and 70 percent of their time dialing for dollars while in office. As a result, they quickly learn where the easy money is: lobbyists and bundlers.

For America to solve the giant problems before us, we must have constructive debate on the issues. That's impossible in the current format. A classic example was Dodd-Frank. We knew the right thing was Too Big To Fail. It didn't get done. Why? Bank lobbyists.
