The Electoral College has become an obsolete and ineffective method of electing the President and Vice President of the United States. There have been 5 times in our nation's history that the candidates who secured which won the popular vote failed to win enough electoral votes resulting in presidential administrations which were not chosen by the majority of voters. Since the number of Electors is equal to the total number of congressional delegates belonging to each state (Senators + Representatives), the result has been less populated states having a disproportionate control of presidential elections. Under the current system, one voter in Wyoming is equivalent to four voters in New York. Currently, the U.S. is the only democracy which elects its leaders in this manner.
