Members of Congress rarely limit their terms voluntarily and incumbency provides an almost insurmountable, unfair advantage to being elected. Over the past 40 years, 87% of House and 84% of Senate incumbents have been reelected. Incredibly, 16 current members of Congress have "served" more than 36 years. We don't want a life-time ruling class more concerned with their reelection than representing us. Career politicians don't serve the people, they serve themselves and the entrenched special interests that keep them in power. They wield more power with each successive election and we all suffer as a result. Term limits are necessary to return to the ideals of our founders who cared more about their country than themselves.
