There is no place in a civilized nation for executions. The appeals process for a capital crime conviction can take 20 years or more. So not only the criminal, but families and friends wait. How is that not cruel? It also impacts those public servants involved in the process. Above all, everyone involved in the judicial process is human, and subject to making mistakes. How many innocent people has this country executed? Life in prison with no possibility of parole should be sufficient. And if we find that that a mistake has been made, although the years cannot be given back, the individual can be set free to try to rebuild his/her life. There are no do-overs after an execution.
