Electing the individuals charged with representing the people is the most important civic duty of the citizenry of a democratic nation. Yet, it is increasingly difficult for hard-working Americans to find the time to exercise this duty.
In the current system, workers, students, and caretakers are forced to wait in long lines, within the few short hours our busy lives allow. Still, many with less flexible work conditions never make it at all.
If we, as a a great nation and symbol of democracy, are truly serious about the merits of representative government, we must take action to make voting as effortless as possible. The one common sense act that would have the most far-reaching effect on achieving this goal would be to make Election Day a federal holiday
