Medicare does not currently provide even basic dental services, yet many Medicare recipients are impoverished and cannot pay for such services on their own. As a result, they must live with cracked and rotting teeth, gum disease, and eventually no teeth at all. Eating becomes difficult and painful, and seniors especially must live with the knowledge that what for them is a major health issue is regarded by Medicare as a cosmetic problem. This shameful neglect of our citizens has become endemic.
