Student loan rates, especially in the private loan industry, are creating an undue burden on young professionals who have pursued higher education. With the cost of graduate and undergraduate education in our current economy, we must address mounting debt that has exceeded even credit cards in our country. This debt is stifling the economy by preventing young professionals from owning a home and making financial plans for the future. It is also preventing hopes for retirement in order to repay loans that many had no choice but take in order to pursue their career goals. Less fortunate students should not have to fore-go higher education due to debt.
