Introduce Legislation Which Would Restrict the Use of Always-Online DRM Systems by Digital Distribution Companies

Created by W.B. on March 07, 2013

The legislation should require that businesses wishing to utilize AODRM make abundantly clear to potential consumers (a required disclaimer on every advertisement) that said consumers will likely be unable to use or access the product they've purchased upon launch, and for as long as a month thereafter.

AODRM systems are well-known to cause these and other problems, as well as to be wholly unnecessary to bring a game to market. This, and much else beside, make these business practices categorically anti-consumer.

The CPA should act to make it as difficult as possible (perhaps even illegal) for a business to engage in the use of unneeded AODRM systems which prohibit paying customers from accessing the digital goods they've purchased for as long as days, or even weeks, on end.
