Introduce measure or bill to institute an instant run-off or mixed member proportional voting system for US elections.

Created by C.C. on June 19, 2013

In order to make a more direct democracy where every citizen's voice is better heard, we should institute an alternative voting system. There are already models in place such as instant runoff. This system would allow a voter to vote for their ideal candidate without fear of their vote being wasted. If no candidate has over 50% of the vote the least favored candidate is dropped and their supporters revote. Mixed-member is another form more towards allowing minor parties seats in government. Either of these measures along with elimination of party affiliation from all federal documents and communications could help to ease the two party stranglehold in the United States. This could allow minor grass-roots candidates or parties a level field, thus allowing voters more choice.
